KOUZOU FUYUTSUKI
He is the Vice Commander of NERV. His significance was not revealed until episode
21. There, we realize that he used to be a college professor involved with biotechnology
research. He hired Ikari Yui, who was to become Gendou’s wife. He had believed
that Rokubungi (Gendou’s name before marrying Yui) became involved with her
because he wanted to get closer to the project. Yui’s project later evolved
into project EVA. GEHIRUN, the precursor to NERV was established for the project.
Gendou subsequently invited Kozou to join the project.
